They play a big role in the final outcome of your work. Blendings modes refer to the resulting effect when layer(s) are "blended" with another layer. 3) Tones & Hues - Grunge pieces usually carry with them rust tones so to speak. But not all the times it does exhibit the latter. One has to be creative when using tones. One can use hues of blue, red, any color that could go with what you have in mind. 4) Creativeness - This you cannot do without. Be creative. If you go with the "usual" steps, your work will end like something you have seen before. The point here is make your work a notch higher than the rest.
